Rethymnon – located midway along Crete’s north coast

The transfer time for this resort is anything from 1 and a half to 2 hours long. This gives you more than enough time to look around at the surrounding scenery that Crete has to offer as well as gain an idea of the location of the resort and the location of your accommodation within the resort. The beaches in Rethymnon are good as they are long and covered in golden sands. The beach is safe with plenty of water sports provided. Loungers and parasols are available to hire and the beach is easily accessible. There are a wide range of hotels available in Rethymnon as well as a number of self-catering apartments. All accommodation ranges from 2-4- stars with the odd 5-star hotel. Hotels generally offer half-board or all-inclusive.

Rethymnon – plenty of beach and water-based activities for you to enjoy

Rethymnon is home to some brilliant water sports down at the beach. These include, surfing, scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkelling, water-skiing, jet-skiing and paragliding. If you prefer to stay out of the water, then why not try exploring the historic town of Rethymnon with its fortress, mosques, churches and archaeological museum. During July, a wine festival is held in City Park which is very popular among both tourists and locals. There are also plenty of excursions for you to go on such as hiking, biking or climbing the mountains, having beach barbecues, visiting a 16th-century monastery, going on boat trips to neighbouring islands and the Greek mainland, visiting the Heraklion archaeological museum or visiting the picturesque resort of Aghios Nikolaos.

Rethymnon – a range of good restaurants to choose from

There are a number of good restaurants in Rethymnon offering traditional Greek cuisine and a lot of seafood. There are also some more international options available in the hotels. Nightlife in the resort is good with a selection of bars offering music and cocktails, discos, nightclubs and a few pubs. There are also a few cinemas around. Shopping in the resort is also good with supermarkets, mini markets, leather and jewellery stores, craft stores and a few clothing stores. Public transport is offered to you in the form of buses to neighbouring resorts such as Chania, Heraklion and Aghios Nikolaos, a mini train around the town centres and seafronts and car hire.

Rethymnon – plenty of sunshine all year round

Rethymnon summer season lasts from April until October and it tends to be very hot and dry and then mild in the winter. However all year round, the weather is good making it an ideal holiday destination all year round. From the beginning of the summer in April, the temperatures are already around 18°C and there are around 8 hours of sunshine a day. Temperatures continue to rise throughout the summer with them peaking at around 27°C in August. By then, there are 13 hours of sunshine a day. There is a gentle coastal breeze that keeps the temperature at a manageable level. From September to October there are 9-11 hours of sunshine a day and temperatures still remain at around 20°C. The winter rainfall starts in December, however the wettest months are January and February. There is a minimum of 4 hours of sunshine a day in this period with temperatures dropping to around 12°C.
